Tom Holland has signed up to star in the first season of The Crowded Room, an anthology series exploring real-life stories of people who have learned to live with mental illness.

The Spider-Man actor will portray Billy Milligan, the first person to be acquitted of a crime because of Multiple Personality Disorder, the condition now known as Dissociative Identity Disorder. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will be based on Daniel Keyes' book about his case, The Minds of Billy Milligan.

Holland will also serve as an executive producer on the series, which is in the works at Apple TV+. Oscar-winning A Beautiful Mind screenwriter Akiva Goldsman is among the series' executive producers, too.

It will mark Holland's first TV role since the 2015 BBC miniseries Wolf Hall. The 24-year-old actor has starred in two movies released this year: Cherry, in which he plays an Army veteran struggling with PTSD, and Chaos Walking, a dystopian thriller co-written by Patrick Ness, creator of Doctor Who spin-off series Class.

And of course, he's due to reprise his web-slinging role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is due in theaters December 17.
