Casting News: 'The Crown' Actress Vanessa Kirby Boards Sci-Fi Film 'StarDream'
The Crown's Vanessa Kirby is taking an intergalactic leap away from the British Royal Family by signing up for sci-fi movie StarDream.
Kirby, who won a BAFTA and earned an Emmy nomination for her performances as Princess Margaret in The Crown, will play lead character Andreya in the upcoming movie from The Wife director Bjorn Runge.
According to Variety, the film centers on a spaceship hastily built to transport hundreds of thousands of cryogenically frozen humans away from a now-uninhabitable planet Earth.
When the on-board computer systems start to falter, Kirby's coder Andreya develops an AI solution that she names Stephen, but the entire mission is compromised when Stephen begins to develop feelings for her.
“To play the leading role in this intergalactic drama needs an extremely sensitive and thoughtful actress who can maintain the balance in her character: I have found that actress in Vanessa Kirby,” Runge said in a statement. “It is a tremendous honor for me to work together with her on this film.”
In the meantime, Kirby will be seen next in Fast & Furious spin-off Hobbs & Show, in which she plays MI6 agent Hattie Shaw, sister of Jason Statham's character Deckard Shaw. The action comedy, which hits theaters August 2, also stars Dwayne Johnson, Idris Elba, and Dame Helen Mirren. Check out the latest trailer, narrated by Elba.
