Casting News: 'Star Wars' Actor John Boyega to Lead Sci-Fi Caper 'They Cloned Tyrone'

Star Wars actor John Boyega has signed up for a different kind of movie: They Cloned Tyrone, described by The Hollywood Reporter as a "pulpy, sci-fi mystery caper."

The movie follows an unlikely trio of characters who team up to uncover a sinister conspiracy in their neighborhood. Atlanta actor Brian Tyree Henry is understood to have been linked to the project earlier, but the role he was eyeing has now gone to Boyega. There's no word yet on who might play the other two members of the trio.

They Cloned Tyrone will mark the directorial debut of Juel Taylor, who previously wrote the screenplay to Creed 2. It's in the works at Netflix and due to start shooting in early 2020.

In the meantime, Boyega will reprise his role as Finn in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the third and final movie in the franchise's sequel trilogy. It's due out December 20, but if you fancy whetting your appetite, you can watch Boyega talk about the American accent he uses for Star Wars in this clip from The Graham Norton Show.

Boyega definitely won't be keeping a low profile after the sequel trilogy draws to a close. He's also signed up to appear in Small Axe, a new anthology series from 12 Years a Slave/Widows director Steve McQueen.

Announced in June, the six-part series will tell five standalone stories set within London’s West Indian community from the late ’60s to the early ’80s. It's due to air on BBC One in the U.K. and Amazon Prime in the U.S. next year.
