Casting News: Russell Brand 'In Talks' for Kenneth Branagh's 'Death on the Nile'

British multi-hyphenate Russell Brand is the latest name attached to Sir Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile.

According to Deadline, Brand is "in talks" to join a swelling ensemble cast that already includes Armie Hammer, Gal Gadot, Annette Bening, BAFTA winner Letitia Wright, and Vanity Fair's Tom Bateman.

It's fair to say that Brand would make a somewhat unexpected addition to the Death on the Nile cast. In the U.S., he's probably best known for his roles in the 2010 comedy movie Get Him to the Greek and 2011 remake of Arthur, but in the U.K. he's also known as super-high-profile and sometimes controversial comedian, radio host, author, and activist.

He's most recently shown off his acting chops in season four of HBO's Ballers. There's no word yet on what role he might be playing in Death on the Nile.

The movie is Branagh's follow-up to his hit 2017 Christie adaptation Murder on the Orient Express, which boasted an incredible ensemble cast including Dame Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Daisy Ridley. As well as directing again, Branagh will be reprising his role as Christie's beloved Belgian detective Hercule Poirot.

This time, the story follows Poirot as he attempts to solve the murder of a young heiress on a river cruise in Egypt. Branagh is due to start shooting at the end of September, and the movie's scheduled for release on December 20, 2020.

Who would you like to join the Death on the Nile cast next?
