Casting News: Reese Witherspoon Has Signed on for Sci-Fi Movie 'Pyros'

Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies) is going the sci-fi route with her latest project.

She is set to produce and star in the forthcoming movie Pyros, reports Empire online. The film is based on Thomas Pierce's 2018 flash fiction Tardy Man, which originally ran in the New Yorker. Pierce will be adapting the story for the big screen.

Tardy Man revolves around an insurance company contractor, who has a protective suit fused to his spine. He's outsourced by the Wick insurance company to go into disaster areas, like a fire, and retrieve the belongings of the company's wealthy clients. The contractor can't deviate from his assignment, even if it means saving a life... it's all about saving/making money.

If you'd like to read the short-short story in its entirety, you can go to the New Yorker here.

It's yet to be announced what role Witherspoon will play. The Tardy Man does have a female coworker named Liza, so that is a possibility. In the meantime, Witherspoon is currently filming the 2020 series Little Fires Everywhere. And she's signed on for a third installment of Legally Blonde, which also has a 2020 release date.

If you haven't caught up on season two of Witherspoon's wildly popular Big Little Lies, here's a peek:
