Casting News: Rachel Weisz Set to Portray Elizabeth Taylor in Biopic 'A Special Relationship'
Just coming off 2018's The Favourite, Rachel Weisz has signed on for another biopic. She is set to star as Elizabeth Taylor in the forthcoming film A Special Relationship, reports Variety.
Taylor began acting as a child, taking the lead in 1944's National Velvet at the age of 12. She went on to become a Hollywood icon, starring in blockbusters like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958), Cleopatra (1963) and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf (1966), just to name a few. As well, she was honored for her performances with two Best Actress Academy Awards.
A Special Relationship isn't just about her work, but how she transitioned from stardom to activism, taking on a prominent role in the fight against AIDS. The story is told through the evolving relationship between her and her assistant Roger Wall, which began in the 1980s. It's described as "a celebration of how friendships can change people’s lives, and how Elizabeth helped change the world."
Slumdog Millionaire's Simon Beaufoy has written the screenplay. Best friends and creative collaborators, Bert & Bertie (Troop Zero) will co-direct.
The film is in the early stages, with a start date yet to be announced.
In the meantime, you can look for Weisz in 2020's Black Widow, opposite Scarlett Johansson.
