Casting News: Natalie Portman is Returning to the 'Thor' Franchise
Natalie Portman took on the role of scientist Jane Foster in 2011's Thor and the 2013 sequel Thor: Dark World. But, Foster was absent for the third installment, 2017's Thor: Ragnorak.
Fans thought that was the end of her run, with Portman making a polite exit from the Marvel Universe. But, nope! That's not the case at all. She's not only signed on for 2021's Thor: Love and Thunder, but it is a doozy of a role.
Writer-director Taika Waititi announced at this year's San Diego Comic-Con (July 21) that Portman will return as Foster and we will see her transform into Mighty Thor. The plot is pulled from the 2014 comic-book storyline, where Foster is able to pick up Thor's hammer, called Mjölnir, earning her the title of Goddess of Thunder.
Portman made it official with an Instagram photo and cheeky statement saying this is the "before" picture as she still needs to train to get jacked up:

We can also look for Chris Hemsworth to reprise his role as Thor. He seems okay with sharing the spotlight and hammer, when asked about the casting in the below clip:

As of now, the only three actors cast for Love and Thunder are Portman, Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie.
Is there room for two Thors in one universe?
