Casting News: Naomie Harris to Play Villain Opposite Tom Hardy in 'Venom 2'

Naomie Harris could be about to cause some trouble for Tom Hardy in Venom 2.

According to Variety, the Oscar-nominated Moonlight actress is in talks to play the supervillain Shriek in the superhero sequel.

Shriek, a dangerous villainess with the ability to manipulate sound, made her Marvel Comics debut in 1993 and is often portrayed as an enemy of Spider-Man. She's also a love interest of Carnage, the character played in the original Venom movie by Woody Harrelson. So, it seems very possible that Harris's Shriek and Harrelson's Carnage could form a bit of a "gruesome twosome" teaming up against Hardy's Venom in the sequel.

Michelle Williams is also reprising her role from the original 2018 Venom movie, which became a huge box office hit despite somewhat mixed reviews, grossing $855 million worldwide.

Andy Serkis has signed up to direct the sequel, which was confirmed by producer Amy Pascal in June. There's no official release date yet, but Sony has earmarked an October 2020 release date for an unknown Marvel movie, which fans are speculating could be Venom 2.

Harris, who was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2017 New Year Honours for services to drama, will also be seen next year in The Third Day, a six-part limited series starring Jude Law, and new Bond movie No Time to Die, in which she reprises her role as Eve Moneypenny.

Her latest movie, action thriller Black and Blue, in which she plays a beleaguered New Orleans cop, opens in theaters Friday.
