We were first introduced to Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven in the first season of Stranger Things (2016). From there, she stepped into the Sherlock Holmes franchise, starring as the iconic sleuth’s little sister Enola. She also popped up in 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong.
And, here we are, she’s going full-circle, making her return to Sci-Fi, teaming up with the Russo Brothers and a robot (more on that below) for the forthcoming The Electric State, reports Deadline.
The feature film is based on Simon Stålenhag’s illustrated novel. The story is set in a “retro-futuristic past” and revolves around an orphaned teenager, played by Brown. While she may not have family, she’s not completely alone, as she has a robot as a companion. He’s described as “sweet and mysterious.”
The two set off an adventure, exploring the American West.
The logline for the movie is quite short, if you’re itching for more, the book’s description might be the fix: “In late 1997, a runaway teenager and her small yellow toy robot travel west through a strange American landscape where the ruins of gigantic battle drones litter the countryside, along with the discarded trash of a high-tech consumerist society addicted to a virtual-reality system. As they approach the edge of the continent, the world outside the car window seems to unravel at an ever-faster pace, as if somewhere beyond the horizon, the hollow core of civilization has finally caved in.
You may know the Russo Brothers, Anthony and Joe, based on their previous work, which includes, but is not limited to, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Extraction, The Gray Man, and 21 Bridges.
There’s no start date as of yet, but once completed, the movie is heading to Netflix.
