Casting News: Matthew Rhys Set to Star in Sci-Fi Series 'Wyrd'

We just saw Welsh actor Matthew Rhys in last year's reboot of the legal drama Perry Mason. He's now switching gears and having a go at sci-fi.

He's set to take on the lead role in the forthcoming FX series Wyrd, based on the 2019 four-part comic novel of the same name. The story centers on an alien (Rhys) who is sent to Earth to collect information about humans, but when he finds himself stranded, he's left alone to figure out what to do.

While trapped on a planet not his own, he takes up private investigating and goes by the name Pitor Wyrd. But, not your typical P.I.-ing, he specializes in paranormal activity. According to the comics' description, he's a bit of a secret weapon for the U.S. government. If they find themselves in a situation that makes absolutely no sense, they call on Wyrd.

With his body being indestructible, he's definitely an aid. But, he's depressed and suicidal, so his mind is a little fragile.

It's been described as "James Bond meets The X-Files..." We should point out, it was the publisher Dark Horse who said that, but, we like the combo and hope the series lives up to it.

Rhys will also act as an executive producer on the series, along with his The Americans (2013-2018) co-star and wife, Keri Russell.

Wyrd is written by Sheldon Turner (X-Men: First Class), with a premiere date to come.
