It's official: Martin Compston is returning to The Rig.
Deadline brings news that his co-stars Iain Glen and Emily Hampshire have also signed up for a second season of the Scottish supernatural thriller series. Set on board an oil rig in the North Sea, the first season follows a crew who lose communications with the outside world – and begin to act erratically – when a strange unexplained fog envelops their base. It premiered on Prime Video in January.
The second season will follow the surviving crew members as they are helicoptered off to a new location where another inexplicable threat awaits them. The show's creator David Macpherson said: "In series two, I’m looking forward to expanding the world of our show through the eyes of our excellent cast, as we deliver more shocks and thrills and delve deeper into both our characters’ and our show’s expanding original mythology."
A Discovery of Witches alum Owen Teale, Line of Duty's Rochenda Sandall, and Game of Thrones actor Mark Addy will all be back for the new season, too.
Compston is best known for his role as DS Steve Arnott in Line of Duty, one of the biggest British TV series of the last decade. You can also catch him in the twisty Scottish miniseries The Nest, which is available to watch on Acorn TV.
