With Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat's Dracula project due to start shooting in the spring, the show's co-creators have announced a host of new cast members.

John Heffernan (The Crown), Joanna Scanlan (No Offence), Dolly Wells (Can You Ever Forgive Me), Morfydd Clark (Patrick Melrose), and Lujza Richter (Phantom Thread) will all appear in the mini-series, which will consist of three feature-length episodes.

They join award-winning Danish actor Claes Bang, who was announced as the show's lead, the Prince of Darkness, in November.

Meanwhile, Gatiss has also confirmed that he will have a role in the mini-series, joking: "I’m running out of childhood dreams to come true. And what a delight to join this fantastic cast. The children of the night!"

Moffat added: "So exciting to see an amazing new cast start to assemble, I hope Claes doesn’t eat them all."

Gatiss celebrated the news by sharing a picture of some of the show's cast and crew on Twitter.

According to the latest BBC press release, Dracula is "inspired by Bram Stoker's classic novel and "will re-introduce the world to Dracula, the vampire who made evil sexy."

A short synopsis teases: "In Transylvania in 1897, the blood-drinking Count is drawing his plans against Victorian London. And be warned: the dead travel fast."

Dracula is expected to air later in 2019, on BBC One in the U.K. and on Netflix in the U.S.
