Casting News: Leslie Mann to Star in Sci-Fi Series 'The Power'

We recently saw Leslie Mann in 2016's How to Be Single as the supportive older sister to Dakota Johnson's twentysomething Alice. This time around, she's taking the lead and is front and center in the forthcoming Amazon Prime series The Power, reports ComingSoon.net.

The series is based on British writer Naomi Alderman's 2016 novel by the same name. Mann will play Margot Cleary-Lopez, the Mayor of Seattle. Her role as a politician shifts when all of the teenage girls in the world develop the ability to emit electricity from their hands. She becomes an advocate in helping the girls understand their power and how to use it, i.e. not kill anyone. She goes so far as to create North Star Girls Camps nationwide to address this growing issue.

Mann is the first and only actor to be cast as of yet.

According to the book's description, the teenage girls "now have immense physical power, they can cause agonizing pain and even death. And, with this small twist of nature, the world drastically resets." In other words, the power shifts, going from a patriarchal society to matriarchal.

Alderman will be leading the all-female writers' room and will co-write the screenplay for the 10-part series. The premiere date has yet to be announced.
