We've recently seen Kirsten Dunst in TV series like 2015's Fargo and an episode of Black Mirror in 2017. She's diving head first into another series, starring in Becoming a God in Central Florida.

She will not become a literal god, but the nine-part comedy will follow her climb the corporate ladder. Set in 1992 Florida, Dunst plays a woman working at a water park. According to the description, she "lies, schemes and cons her way up the ranks of Founders American Merchandise (FAM)." FAM is a multibillion dollar company, running a pyramid scheme.

Dunst will be joined by Ted Levine (The Alienist), who will play the head of FAM, Obie Garbeau II. Levine released a statement expressing his excitement over the project and working with Dunst, saying, "We were immediately drawn to this stylish and subversive female empowerment story starring Kirsten Dunst as you’ve never seen her before."

Levine believes they have a formula for success: “Throw in clever writing, inventive filmmaking, a strong, diverse ensemble and some alligators... audiences will find On Becoming a God irresistible."

It is Florida, so that bit about alligators could be meant literally or figuratively (or both). We're picturing a pyramid worker not hitting their numbers and being thrown into the swamp.

The cast is rounded out with Théodore Pellerin (The OA), Beth Ditto (Nocturnal Animals) and Mel Rodriguez (The Last Man on Earth).

The Showtime series will kick off on August 25 at 10/9c.
