Kim Cattrall is returning to the big screen for only the second time since 2010's Sex and the City 2.
According to Deadline, she has joined the cast of About My Father, a culture clash comedy film starring Robert De Niro and stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco.
The movie, inspired by Maniscalco's own life and co-written by the comedian, sounds a little like an edgier Meet the Parents. When Maniscalco's character tells his father, an old-school Italian American played by De Niro, that he intends to marry his all-American girlfriend Ellie (Leslie Bibb), the patriarch insists on bringing the two families together for a bonding weekend.
Cattrall has been cast as Ellie's mom, who is described as a "powerhouse senator" – a role that, quite frankly, we can't wait to see Cattrall sink her teeth into. The movie is shooting now with Laura Terruso (Good Girls Get High, Work It) directing.
We recently rounded up 10 reasons we'll always have time for Kim Cattrall, whose last movie appearance came in the 2019 family comedy Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans. Although she declined the opportunity to reprise her role as Samantha Jones in the upcoming Sex and the City continuation series And Just Like That..., Cattrall has kept busy in TV series including the BBC's adaptation of Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution and the Fox drama series Filthy Rich.
