Casting News: Kate Beckinsale to Star in Family Drama Movie 'Prisoner's Daughter'

Kate Beckinsale has lined up her next movie role in Prisoner's Daughter, a family-based drama from Twilight and Thirteen director Catherine Hardwicke.

According to Deadline, Beckinsale will play a woman whose estranged father, an ex-con, has a violent past. The script by Mark Bacci (Northern Rescue) follows him as he tries to reconnect with his daughter and grandson.

"Mark Bacci’s script is a raw, personal look at a deeply fractured family, similar to my first film Thirteen (with Evan Rachel Wood and Holly Hunter)," Hardwicke said. "With Prisoner’s Daughter, I want to fully immerse the viewer in Kate’s character's intense world as she, her father, and her young son try to heal generational family trauma and find a new way forward."

There's no word yet on who might be playing the father character.

But given that Hunter picked up Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe nominations for her role in Hardwicke's Thirteen, the movie sounds like a smart choice for Beckinsale.

The British actress earned some of the best reviews of her career for her performance in Love & Friendship, a 2016 period comedy drama based on Jane Austen's Lady Susan. Since then, she's starred in the twisty ITV/Amazon Prime drama series The Widow and movies including the action-horror sequel Underworld: Blood Wars.
