Casting News: Jude Law and Josh O’Connor Join Kate Winslet in New Movie About Photographer Lee Miller

Kate Winslet has been joined by four new castmates in Lee, an upcoming movie about renowned photojournalist Lee Miller.
Jude Law, Josh O’Connor, Marion Cotillard, and Andrea Riseborough have all signed up for the film that Winslet is producing and starring in, Deadline reports.
Cinematographer-turned-director Ellen Kuras is directing the movie, which will explore Miller’s transition from a fine art photographer to a fearless photojournalist who chronicled the horrors of World War II in London, Paris, and several German concentration camps.
"This is absolutely not a biopic," Winslet said. “To make a story about Lee’s whole life, that’s a series' worth for HBO. What we wanted to do was find the most interesting decade in her life, the one that defined who she was and what she became because of what she went through. It was the period from 1938-1948 that took her right through the war and her most defining time. That is the story we want people to know about Lee more than the many other parts of her life."
The movie will mark something of a reunion for Winslet and Law, who previously starred together in the much loved rom-com The Holiday. This, however, sounds like a very different project.
Describing Miller's legacy, Winslet added: "What she did, as a female photographer on the front lines during WWII, so much of what was documented was not just giving a voice to the voiceless, but it was educating people on what actually happened during the war. You have to remember, people were trying to cover it up. She had to make them believe it, because no one would."
Law has been cast as Roland Penrose, the artist, historian, and poet who became Miller's husband, while O'Connor will appear as their son Anthony Penrose. Cotillard will portray Solange D’Ayen, a fashion director at French Vogue who was a lifelong friend of Miller's, while Riseborough will play another friend, British Vogue editor Audrey Withers.
The movie is due to start shooting next summer in Eastern Europe and London. Bring it on.
