Casting News: Joseph Fiennes to Play Extreme Athlete Wim Hof in 'The Iceman' Movie

Joseph Fiennes is set to star as Dutch extreme athlete Wim Hof in an upcoming biographical movie called The Iceman, Deadline reports
The film's title is totally apt, because Hof earned the nickname "The Iceman" after attracting global attention for his remarkable ability to withstand freezing temperatures. Over the years, he has set numerous world records including running the fastest marathon barefoot on ice and snow, and swimming the furthest distance under ice.
As Deadline reports, the Hof biopic is being directed by Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland, The Mauritanian) from a script by Jeff Pope (Philomena, TV's Cilla). Shooting is due to start in November of this year.
"Wim is someone who has suffered a terrible trauma – the loss of his wife – and finds an entirely new way to deal with the depression that comes with that experience," Macdonald told Deadline. Jeff Pope has written a brilliant script – full of humor and humanity and emotions. In it we are introduced to the Dutch suburbs – a world of crazy stunts, a broken family, a love affair and an epiphany. This is a film about resilience, second chances, and the amazing ability of the human body and mind to heal."
In the meantime, you can find out more about Hof's self-styled "method" for withstanding freezing temperatures – which involves a combination of breathing techniques, yoga, and meditation, plus frequent exposure to cold temperatures – over on his website
