John Boyega is reuniting with writer-director Joe Cornish for a sequel to their cult horror flick Attack the Block.
Four years before he joined the Star Wars franchise, Boyega made his movie debut in the 2011 horror comedy, which followed a gang of teenagers on a south London estate as they defended themselves from alien invaders. The supporting cast included Nick Frost, Franz Drameh, and future Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker.
Cornish will also write and direct Attack the Block 2 with Boyega starring once again as Moses and serving as a producer. "It’s been a decade since Attack the Block was released and so much has changed since then," the actor said in a press release. "I’m excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favorite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honor."
Cornish added: "I’m thrilled we’re officially announcing our return to the world of Attack the Block on the tenth anniversary of the film's release. I can’t wait to work alongside John again, bringing audiences an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action."
Plot details for Attack the Block 2 are being kept under wraps and there's no details on further casting yet. Boyega's 2021 already got off to a great start when he won a Golden Globe for his performance as pioneering Black British policeman Leroy Logan in "Red, White and Blue," an episode of Steve McQueen's highly acclaimed miniseries Small Axe.
