Jeremy Irons has joined the starry ensemble cast of Ridley Scott's upcoming movie Gucci, in a yet to be announced role.

According to Deadline, Lady Gaga is attached to star as Patrizia Reggiani, the disgraced ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci, one-time head of the Gucci fashion house.

Portraying Reggiani is definitely a meaty role for Gaga in what will be her first acting job since A Star Is Born. In 1998, Reggiani was convicted of arranging her ex-husband's assassination three years earlier and went on to serve 18 years in prison.

Her daughters later campaigned for Reggiani's conviction to be overturned, claiming that their mother's personality had been affected by a brain tumor. However, they only succeeded in reducing her sentence from its original 29-year term.

Irons also joins Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Jack Huston and Reeve Carney in the movie, which is being produced by the director's wife Giovanna Scott.

The movie has a script by Roberto Bentivegna based on Sara Gay Forden’s book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder.

Irons' latest movie, Love, Weddings & Other Disasters, a rom-com co-starring Diane Keaton, opened Friday. He's also due to star opposite George MacKay in Netflix's film adaptation of the popular Robert Harris novel Munich.
