You know we're all about female assassins, with Killing Eve's Villanelle (Jodie Comer) holding the top spot.

But, there's still room for other takes on the complex character. In the forthcoming Netflix movie The Mother, Jennifer Lopez is set to portray a female assassin who has gone into hiding, reports Deadline.

It's not clear if she's retired, or just keeping a low-profile, but she re-emerges when her daughter is in trouble. According to the description, Lopez's character was forced to give up her daughter, because she was on the run.

It's not just an action-thriller, but a sort of family reunion. It will be interesting to see her daughter's reaction when her mother re-enters her life unexpectedly.

The script is being written by Misha Green (Lovecraft Country), with 2020's Mulan director Niki Caro attached, but not yet confirmed.

This isn't the only project Lopez has in the works over at Netflix, she's also starring in The Cipher, an adaptation of Isabella Maldonado's 2020 novel. According to the same Deadline article above, Lopez is set to take on the role of an FBI agent named Nina Guerrera. Guerrera is pulled into a case involving a serial killer who leaves hints online, made up of codes and riddles.

Lopez has a lot going on these days, she's already completed filming on 2021's Marry Me, a rom-com/musical. And, she has two other movies in the works, The Godmother and Shotgun Wedding, with start dates yet to be announced.
