Jack Whitehall has lined up his first romantic comedy role, and it's definitely an offbeat-sounding choice.

The actor, comedian, and presenter will star opposite Shailene Woodley (Big Little Lies, The Fault in Our Stars) in Robots, an upcoming movie from Borat writer Anthony Hines, Deadline reports.

It's based on a short story by sci-fi writer Robert Sheckley and centers on a womanizer and a gold digger who team up to track down robot doubles of themselves who have fallen in love and run away together. Along the way, the human twosome apparently learn a little something about "humanity."

"At a time when comedies are needed more than ever, I couldn’t be more delighted than to have Shailene and Jack team up to play the leads in this movie," Hines said.

In the meantime, Whitehall has two movies on the release slates: the Disney fantasy adventure Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, which is due in theaters July 30, and children's book adaptation Clifford the Big Red Dog, which is scheduled for September 17.

You can whet your appetite by reliving this hilarious anecdote about performing for Prince Charles that Whitehall shared on The Graham Norton Show a few years ago.
