Casting News: Ian McShane Set to Return for the 'John Wick' Franchise

In 2014, we saw Keanu Reeves take on the title role in the action-thriller John Wick. The story revolves around a former hit man who comes out of retirement after some baddies kill his dog. We don't blame him!

He is joined by Ian McShane, who takes on the role of the Continental Hotel's New York branch manager Winston. Both starred in the two follow-up movies, 2017's John Wick: Chapter 2 and 2019's John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum.

And, both are set to reprise their roles for the forthcoming installment, John Wick: Chapter 4 (did you see that title coming?), reports Deadline. The fourth film was announced two years ago, right after the third movie hit theaters, with Reeves attached.

But, McShane's involvement was just confirmed yesterday. McShane's Winston is predominantly a friend to Wick throughout the franchise, even saving his life a few times, but at the end of the third film SLIGHT SPOILER AHEAD he betrays him for self-serving reasons.

Winston turns his loyalty to the High Table, which is a group of crime lords who govern the criminal organizations. He does so, in hopes of rebuilding the reputation of his hotel.

If Wick was that mad in the original film, can you even imagine what he might think of this Winston fella's actions?

This does not sound good — for these two friends-turned-foes at least — but it does sound good like good moviemaking.

We are definitely intrigued to see where the story picks up...

Director Chad Stahelski is keen to have McShane back in the John Wick fold, saying in a statement, "I couldn’t be happier than to welcome Ian McShane back to John Wick: Chapter 4. He is not only an amazing actor but is an indispensable collaborator who has helped define the world of John Wick."

We have a feeling they might make up, but that's based on pure speculation (and hope).

We'll have to wait for the finished project to release, which we can look for on May 27, 2022.

If you find yourself now thinking of McShane, here's a roundup of some of his most witty moments, saying it how it is.
