Hugh Grant is to play Zeus, the father of all gods, in a new series called Kaos that offers a dark comedy take on Greek mythology.
Deadline reports that Harry Potter alum David Thewlis, two-time Oscar nominee Janet McTeer, and Dublin MurdersKillian Scott have also joined the Netflix series, which is due to start shooting later this summer.
Misia Butler (Kiss Me First), Leila Farzad (I Hate Suzie), Nabhaan Rizwan (Station Eleven), Rakie Ayola (Shetland) and Stanley Townsend (Death in Paradise) will all appear in series regular roles, too. Meanwhile, Billie Piper has signed up for a cameo.
Created by The End of the F***ing World writer Charlie CovellKaos definitely sounds as though it will bring a healthy dose of irreverence to Greek mythology. It's set in a world where the gods wear "tracksuits not togas," and Grant will apparently portray an arrogant but insecure Zeus whose self-confidence spirals when he finds a single wrinkle on his forehead.
Covell said in a statement: "I believe I'm still in shock at the news that Hugh Grant has agreed to play Zeus: this was my dream. He's leading a stupendous cast of actors and we're extremely honored to have them all on board. I can’t wait for filming to begin."
Can you picture Hugh Grant as an insecure Zeus?
