Hot off a couple of Emmy nominations, Dame Harriet Walter has lined up another exciting TV role in Archie, a series about Hollywood legend Cary Grant.
ITV has announced that Walter will co-star opposite Jason Isaacs, who will portray Grant. Walter is taking on the role of his mother Elise Leach. Other new cast members announced for the series, a co-production with BritBox, include Henry Lloyd-Hughes (Ragdoll), Jason Watkins (Line of Duty), and Laura Aikman (Gavin & Stacey).
Written by BAFTA-winning writer Jeff Pope, the series will tell Grant's life story from his impoverished childhood in Bristol, England – where he was born Archibald Leach – to huge Hollywood success in the middle of the 20th century. ITV notes that the series is being made with the blessing of the actor's daughter Jennifer Grant and ex-wife Dyan Cannon, both of whom have been "interviewed extensively" by Pope.
The series is shooting now in Manchester, Chester, and Liverpool in northern England. It adds to a super-busy patch for Walter, who has appeared in a string of hit TV series in recent years, including BBC America's Killing Eve, AMC's This Is Going to Hurt, Belgravia, Succession, and Ted Lasso. She earned Emmy nominations this year for her work in Succession and Ted Lasso.
