Gugu Mbatha-Raw has been cast as the lead in a BBC adaptation of JP Delaney's The Girl Before.

According to Deadline, the four-part series will be directed by Lisa Brühlmann, whose previous directing credits include two episodes of BBC America's Killing Eve: "The Hungry Caterpillar" and "Desperate Times."

Delaney is said to be overseeing the adaptation of his bestselling 2016 novel, which centers on a traumatized woman called Jane who falls in love with a beautiful, minimalist house in trendy east London neighborhood Hoxton.

When she discovers that a woman with difficulties similar to her own actually died in the same property three years earlier, she begins to suspect that her life story is becoming a repeat of "the girl before."

Shooting is due to start later this year. It adds to a busy slate for Mbatha-Raw, who will soon be seen opposite Tom Hiddleston in Disney+'s eagerly anticipated Loki series. She's also set to star in Seacole, a biopic of Mary Seacole, the pioneering British-Jamaican nurse who overcame racial prejudice to treat thousands of soldiers during the Crimean war.
