Casting News: 'Game of Thrones' and 'Torchwood' Alum Indira Varma Joins 'Star Wars' Spin-Off Series

Game of Thrones and Torchwood actress Indira Varma has joined the cast of Disney+'s Star Wars spin-off series centred on Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Ewan McGregor is reprising his role as the legendary Jedi Master from the Star Wars prequel trilogy, joined by Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker a.k.a. Darth Vader. According to Deadline, the series is due to start shooting in the spring with The Mandalorian's Deborah Chow directing the first two episodes.

Plot details are top-secret – and Varma's character is under wraps too – but in terms of the Star Wars timeline, the series is expected to be set between the second and third prequel movies, Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

It marks another high-profile TV role for Varma, who appeared as Suzie Costello in season one of BBC America's Torchwood, Ellaria Sand in Game of Thrones, Zoe Luther in BBC America's Luther, and Anne Moore in Patrick Melrose.

Her other credits include Little Britain, Rome, Carnival Row, and Spitting Image, in which she provides the voice of U.K. Home Secretary Priti Patel.

In October she won an Olivier Award for her performance opposite Andrew Scott in a West End revival of Noël Coward's Present Laughter.
