Gabriel Byrne is the latest big name to sign up for Ballerina, the upcoming John Wick spin-off film from Underworld director Len Wiseman.

As Deadline reports, he joins a stacked cast led by Ana de Armas and franchise regulars Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, and Lance Reddick. Also on board are The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus, The Affair's Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Oscar winner Anjelica Huston.

There's no word yet on the character Byrne will be playing, but a quote from the movie's producer Basil Iwaynk suggests he could be something of a tricky operator. "For decades, Gabriel’s mysterious and enigmatic presence has enriched dozens of films," Iwanyk said. "You can never quite be sure what he’s thinking, and that’s perfect for this world."

De Armas, recently seen in the Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde, is starring as Rooney, a ballerina-assassin who embarks on a killing spree to avenge the deaths of her family members. The movie is shooting now in Prague, Czech Republic.

In the meantime, we can look forward to John Wick: Chapter 4, which opens in theaters on March 24, 2023. That one also stars Reeves, McShane, and Reddick, as well as singer-turned-actress Rina Sawayama, who will be performing on The Graham Norton Show this Friday (December 23).
