After starring in Obi-Wan Kenobi and Halston, Ewan McGregor has signed up for another, very different TV role. This time, he'll take the lead in an adaptation of Amor Towles' novel A Gentleman in Moscow.
Variety reports that McGregor will also produce the series, which will air on Showtime in the U.S. and Paramount+ internationally. He'll play Count Alexander Rostov, a once-powerful man who falls on hard times following the Russian revolution.
Though the Count ends up confined to the attic of a fancy hotel following a business tribunal, he ends up thriving and learning "the true value of friendship, family, and love." McGregor said of the series: "It's an amazing, wonderful story and I am very excited to get to play such a fabulous role."
Ben Vanstone, best known for writing the PBS Masterpiece hit All Creatures Great and Small, will serve as showrunner on the series. While we await what sounds like a heartwarming story, you can check out our recent feature on 10 reasons we appreciate him, including his Emmy-winning turn in Halston.
