Casting News: Emily Blunt to Star in Epic Western Series 'The English'
Emily Blunt is to star in epic Western series The English, the BBC has announced.
Blunt will play Cornelia Locke, an Englishwoman who arrives in the American West in 1890 on a quest for revenge. Her high-stakes aim is to find and punish the man she considers responsible for her son's death.
Banshee actor Chaske Spencer will co-star as Eli Whipp, an ex-cavalry scout whom she joins forces with along the way. Shooting is underway now in Spain with a supporting cast that includes Rafe Spall (Trying), Toby Jones (Detectorists), Tom Hughes (A Discovery of Witches), and Ciaran Hinds (Harry Potter).
The series is being written and directed by Hugo Blick, whose previous credits include Black Earth Rising and The Honourable Woman. It will air in the U.K. on BBC One and in the U.S. on Amazon Prime Video.
Black said in a statement: "The chance to make a Western with Emily Blunt and the cast is so delicious I’m still wondering if it’s one of those weird dreams we were all having during lockdown. If not, a thrilling, romantic, epic horse-opera is heading to your screen sometime next year, and I couldn’t be more excited."
As well as starring in the series, Blunt is serving as one of its producers. The English marks her first live-action TV role since 2006's Gideon's Daughter, for which she won a Golden Globe award.
