Casting News: Donald Sutherland Joins Sci-Fi Thriller 'Moonfall'

We just recently saw Donald Sutherland pop up in the new series The Undoing, starring Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman as a married couple.
Sutherland has just signed on for another project, set to star in the sci-fi thriller Moonfall, reports In the forthcoming action flick, when the Moon is knocked out of orbit, the world is sent into a tizzy.
Sutherland is set to play the head of NASA's archives, a gatekeeper of sorts. He has access to top secret information that may play a role in the current situation, but he's unsure if he should disclose what he knows to the public.
Human civilization has only a few weeks before the Moon collides with Earth. According to the description, a "ragtag" team heads to space to land on the Moon, in an attempt to run interference.
We find ourselves picturing these space cowboys lassoing the Moon and somehow pulling it back. But, that's just us... our guesstimate is that it will in fact be more technical, especially considering writer-director Roland Emmerich is on board, who created sagas like Stargate (1994) and Independence Day (1996).
Emmerich is set to direct and write the script with his 2012 co-writer Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen (Extinction).
In addition to Sutherland, we can also look for Patrick Wilson, Eme Ikwuakor, John Bradley, Charlie Plummer, Halle Berry and Stanley Tucci.
Filming is set to begin in the fall, with a release date still to come.
How does one stop the Moon!?
