Jane Austen's 1817 Persuasion has been adapted for screen a number of times, and now Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey) has signed on for a retelling of the story, which you can look for over at Netflix, reports ComingSoon.net.

It seems the plan is to stick to the source material, but have it set in modern day. Persuasion revolves around a young woman named Anne Elliot, who is described as unconforming with modern sensibilities. She and her family are on the verge of bankruptcy and in attempt to save money, they rent out their home.

While this is all going on, Elliot's former love interest re-enters her life. Elliot and a man by the name of Frederick Wentworth were once engaged, but she was persuaded to turn her back on him. Now that he's back, and they are both single, they play with the idea of getting back together.

According to the original story, the two have been apart for seven years and this might be considered a second chance.

The forthcoming adaptation is set to be a feature-length film, with Carrie Cracknell (Sea Wall/ A Life) to direct. The screenplay will be co-adapted by Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow.

Johnson's role in Persuasion has yet to be announced, but we'll keep an eye out. In the meantime, you can also look for her in forthcoming projects, including 2021's drama The Lost Daughter and the biopic Am I Ok?, with the latter still waiting on a release date.
