Casting News: 'Charmed' Actor Rupert Evans Lands Patriarch Role in 'Bridgerton'

Charmed and The Man in the High Castle actor Rupert Evans has landed a key role in season two of Bridgerton.

The 44-year-old actor will play the late Edmund Bridgerton, husband of Violet Bridgerton and father of the eight Bridgerton siblings. Announcing the casting on Twitter, production company Shondaland wrote: "Edmund is a loving and devoted husband, whose true love match with Violet Bridgerton gave them eight perfect children. He’s also an endlessly patient and kind father, who takes special pride in guiding his eldest son Anthony through life."

Evans added playfully: "My sole focus, all my energy, is going into growing my sideburns..."

According to Deadline, Evans won't be a series regular in season two of the Netflix costume drama. In Bridgerton lore, Edmund dies at the age of 38 after suffering a severe allergic reaction to a bee sting, a tragedy that has a significant impact on his son Anthony.

Season two will follow the grown-up Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) on his quest for true love, suggesting Edmund could appear in flashback sequences featuring younger versions of Bailey's character and perhaps Violet Bridgerton, who is currently played by Ruth Gemmell.

Season two of Bridgerton is shooting now in London and sadly won't feature breakout star Regé-Jean Page, who has completed his stint as the Duke of Hastings. Still, you can catch the actor talking about Bridgerton's, ahem, more "intimate" scenes during his recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
