Casting News: Charlie Hunnam to Star in Action-Thriller 'Waldo'
Forget where's Waldo; today we discovered who's Waldo. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) will take on the title role in the forthcoming action flick, Waldo, directed by Tim Kirkby (Veep).
We're fairly confident Hunnam won't be donning a red and white striped sweater to play Charlie Waldo, a brilliant former LAPD detective who left the force in disgrace after a misstep in a murder case. He is now living a solitary life deep in the woods.
According to the blurb for Howard Michael Gould's 2018 novel Last Looks, on which the film is based, Waldo is a minimalist, "pathologically committed to owning no more than one hundred possessions." His self-imposed solitude comes to an end when a famous TV star's wife is murdered in their own home.
Waldo is drawn out of seclusion by his ex-girlfriend, Lorena, and resurfaces as a private investigator tasked with looking into the murder. Naturally, the actor-husband is a suspect, and Waldo must either clear his name or confirm his guilt.
In addition to Hunnam, Mel Gibson and Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver) will star.
Filming has yet to begin on Waldo, but Gould's Last Looks sequel, Below the Line, will publish next summer.
Are you going to read the book it's based on before Waldo hits theaters?
