We saw Joaquin Phoenix in the title role of 2019’s Joker. He’s set to return as the troubled DC Comics character, but he’s not going it alone. It’s just been announced, Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges, Harry Potter) is set to star in the sequel, entitled Joker: Folie à Deux, reports ComingSoon.net. If “folie à deux” is new to you, it means a shared psychosis.
To backtrack, Joker is the origin story of how Arthur Fleck came to be a supervillain. At first glance, he’s a standup comedian struggling with mental health issues. But as the movie progresses, we learn he suffered abuse as a child.

Gleeson’s character has yet to be revealed. But, we do know Lady Gaga is set to take on the iconic role of Harley Quinn. Our vote is for Gleenson to portray Fleck’s father, which may help explain some of his troubles. But, that is pure speculation.
Production will begin later this year and we’ll learn some answers to these Qs when the movie is released in 2024.
In the meantime, speaking of troubled, you can look for Gleeson’s actor son, Domhnall, as a serial killer in the recently released The Patient:

Apparently, acting is a shared interest in the Gleeson family.
