Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy and David Oyelowo have joined the cast of The Book of Clarence, an epic biblical film from British director Jeymes Samuel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, they're part of a raft of new cast members that also includes Micheal Ward (Empire of Light), Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Broadchurch), Alfre Woodard (Clemency), Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things), and Tom Glynn-Carney (House of the Dragon).
They all join previously announced cast members LaKeith Stanfield and Omar Sy in the movie, which started shooting Monday (December 5) in Milan, Italy. Stanfield is starring as Clarence, a struggling citizen of Jerusalem who seeks to reverse his fortunes by piggybacking on the popularity of the Messiah in a rather questionable way. It's definitely an interesting an original premise.
Samuel, who previously made the acclaimed Western movie The Harder They Fall starring Idris Elba, is directing from his own script. Shawn Carter a.k.a. Jay-Z, who previously worked with Samuel on The Harder They Fall, is one of The Book of Clarence's producers.
Meanwhile, McAvoy fans may also be interested to know that he has recently discussed his future with the X-Men franchise.
