Casting News: Benedict Cumberbatch and Laura Dern to Star in Sci-Fi Movie 'Morning'

Benedict Cumberbatch and Laura Dern in the same movie? It's happening.
Deadline brings news that the two actors, plus A Quiet Place's Noah Jupe, have signed up to star in Morning, an upcoming sci-fi film from director Justin Kurzel (Macbeth, True History of the Kelly Gang).
The movie is set in the future and definitely has an interesting premise. Technological advances have given the human race never-ending daylight and a pill that replaces the need for sleep, meaning they can live and work 24/7, 365 days a year. However, some members of the younger generation are on the brink of rebelling to reclaim their ability to dream.
Dern is playing Cathy, a woman who advocated passionately for life without sleep, but is now struggling following the death of her husband Frank (Cumberbatch) and her son Danny (Jupe) getting drawn into the pro-dreaming movement. Dern and Cumberbatch will serve as executive producers on the movie, which has a screenplay by Sam Steiner, who also co-wrote the upcoming Carey Mulligan movie Fingernails.
Producer Adam Ackland said: "Morning is a joyful, reflective, and defiant story about a reality not so far from our own where a preoccupation with productivity has destroyed our ability to connect, grieve, and love. We cannot wait to see this incredibly talented cast and creative team headed by Justin, Laura, and Noah bring Sam’s brilliantly original script to life.”
