Casting News: 'Batwoman' TV Series Casts Ruby Rose's Father

The CW's upcoming Batwoman TV series is already a game-changer. Starring Ruby Rose in the iconic title role, it's the first ever live-action superhero show to feature a gay lead character.

Now Batwoman has become even more exciting thanks to the addition of Dougray Scott as its male lead. According to Deadline, the prolific Scottish actor has landed the role of Jacob Kane, father of Rose's character Kate Kane.

However, this is no straightforward 'doting dad' part. Scott's Jacob Kane is the owner of a private security firm called The Crows, and believes it is his job to clean up Gotham city's criminal underworld. Because of this, he has very little time for the masked vigilante trying to do the same thing, Batwoman, whom he doesn't realise is actually his daughter in disguise. It's a super – pun intended – juicy set-up.

Rose, who is gay, revealed last summer that landing the ground-breaking superhero role had left her "emotional," saying on The Tonight Show: "I feel like the reason I got so emotional is that growing up, watching TV, I never saw someone on TV that I could identify with, let alone a superhero, you know?"

She's already made her debut as Kate Kane aka Batwoman in another The CW series, Supergirl.

Scott, who starred in last year's BBC costume drama The Woman in White, will also be seen alongside Archie Panjabi and Christopher Plummer in the upcoming British-Canadian miniseries Departure.
