Casting News: Aubrey Plaza Has Signed on for Guy Ritchie Espionage Movie
Guy Ritchie (The Gentlemen) has an untitled espionage action flick coming out. While we don't know what it's called, we do know that Jason Statham is set to star. And just recently, Aubrey Plaza has signed on as well, reports Empire online.
Ritchie will direct, with the screenplay coming from Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies, who also handled writing duties for The Gentleman and Wrath of Man.
The story revolves around a global intelligence agency, who recruits MI6 agent Orson Fortune (Statham) to help in preventing the sale of a deadly weapons technology that can throw off the world as we know it.
Fortune is assigned to a CIA high-tech expert, named Sarah Field. With it being the CIA, she’s most likely American. The description says he’s reluctant to work with her.
While Plaza's character hasn't been announced yet, it's highly plausible she will be taking on the role of the tech expert.
Plaza isn't one to mince words, as a person or in character. So, if she is indeed to take on the role of the CIA agent who Fortune butts heads with, it's sure to be a good match of wits.
Here's an interview with Plaza being her wonderfully blunt self on Late Show with David Letterman:
While the two agents might have some friction, they team up to go after billionaire arms broker Greg Simmonds, who is yet to be cast.
Statham and Ritchie have worked on a number of movies together, including 1998’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, 2000’s Snatch and more recently, this year’s The Gentleman. This is Plaza's first time being a part of a Guy Ritchie project.
That leaves only one question: who would you cast as the baddie?
