Some casting news is almost too perfectly nostalgic. Andie MacDowell, who co-starred opposite Hugh Grant in Four Weddings and a Funeral, has joined the limited series inspired by the classic British rom-com.

According to Deadline, MacDowell will play the mother of one of four American friends who reunite in London for a lavish wedding – one of four (and a funeral, of course) that shake up their social group over a 12-month period.

Announced around a year ago, the Four Weddings series is being executive-produced by Mindy Kaling for streaming service Hulu. Richard Curtis, writer of the original 1994 film directed by Mike Newell, has been involved in developing the series.

Alongside MacDowell's casting, it's also been revealed that Game of Thrones actress Nathalie Emmanuel has joined the series as one of its four leads. She replaces Jessica Williams, whose casting had been announced by Deadline in October.

The other three leads will be played by Rebecca Rittenhouse (The Mindy Project), John Reynolds (Search Party), and Nikesh Patel (Indian Summers). The series is due to debut in 2019.

Released in 1994, Four Weddings and a Funeral became a surprise global smash, winning four BAFTA awards, a Golden Globe (for Grant) and an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. It's widely credited with launching Grant's Hollywood acting career, and his declaration of love for MacDowell's character in the pouring rain has become iconic.

Now that MacDowell has joined the series, it's tempting to speculate whether Grant could also be tempted to take on a small role. After all, he's already said he's involved in a "sequel-ette" to the movie being made for Red Nose Day.

A cameo from Kristin Scott Thomas as her scene-stealing Four Weddings character Fiona would be super-welcome, too.
