'Captain Marvel' Actress Lashana Lynch to Play Female 007 Opposite Daniel Craig in 'Bond 25'
Captain Marvel's Lashana Lynch is reportedly playing a female 007 in the new Bond movie.
The British actress, whose casting in Bond 25 was confirmed in April, is said to deliver "a popcorn-dropping moment" in the movie – one devised by Killing Eve's Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who has co-written the screenplay.
"There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where [Ralph Fiennes'] character M says, ‘Come in 007,’ and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman," an insider told the Mail on Sunday. "Bond is still Bond but he's been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman."
The source also said that Daniel Craig's 007 will try to seduce Lynch's 007, but she'll resist his advances, at least initially.
The report hasn't been confirmed by Lynch or the movie's creative team, but it definitely tallies with Waller-Bridge's comments on how she hopes to modernize the Bond franchise.
“There’s been a lot of talk about whether or not [the Bond franchise] is relevant now because of who he is and the way he treats women,” Waller-Bridge said in April. “I think that’s b*****s. I think he’s absolutely relevant now. It has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. He doesn’t have to. He needs to be true to this character.”
Director Cary Joji Fukunaga (Beasts of No Nation) is shooting the new Bond movie now at various locations in the U.K., Norway, Italy, and Jamaica. The movie’s official title hasn’t been announced yet, but we know that Rami Malek is playing the main villain who’ll cause trouble for Daniel Craig's Bond. Franchise faves Andrew Scott, Naomie Harris, and Ben Whishaw are all back, too.
Bond 25 is set to open in theaters on April 3, 2020. Let's hope it has plenty more "popcorn-dropping" moments in store.
