Candace Bushnell's Non-Fiction Book 'Is There Still Sex In the City?' is Heading to TV
Candace Bushnell's next book, Is There Still Sex In the City?, has yet to be released, but there are already plans for it to be made into a TV series, reports Deadline.
The Sex and the City creator is moving into nonfiction, exploring love and dating after 50 in her new book, publishing on August 6. She's working on developing the book into a script with Paramount TV.
In a statement, Bushnell talks about what one could expect in their sixth decade, based on what was seen back in the day, saying, "At one time, fifty something meant the beginning of retirement – working less, spending more time on your hobbies, with your friends, who like you were sliding into a more leisurely lifestyle."
But, it sounds like Bushnell is flipping the script, that there is more to life than just passing time when hitting middle age.
She goes on to say, "In short, retirement age folks weren’t meant to do much of anything but get older and a bit heavier. They weren’t expected to exercise, start new business ventures, move to a different state, have casual sex with strangers, and start all over again. But this is exactly what the lives of a lot of fifty- and sixty something women look like today and I’m thrilled to be reflecting the rich, complexity of their reality on the page and now on the screen."
We fully agree with the above statement and even have evidence with this prior Anglo post: 6 Actresses Who've Sustained Film Careers for Three Decades — And They're Still Going.
The folks over at Paramount seem pretty keen on the concept, with Nicole Clemens, President of Paramount Television, saying in a statement, "We’re thrilled to be able to continue that conversation [about sex in the city] from the underrepresented point of view of women in their 50s and answer the question with, ‘Yes! There is more sex in the city!’”
While the book is nonfiction, that's not to say it will be a documentary-style series. It could easily be turned into a dramatization of real stories.
