Today brings great news for Call the Midwife fans: the BBC has commissioned another two seasons of the popular period drama.

Call the Midwife's future was already guaranteed until 2020, but the new commission means our favorite east London nuns will now be on air until 2022.

Heidi Thomas, the show's creator, writer, and executive producer, said in a statement: "Even after all these years, it still feels as though Call the Midwife has more truth to tell, more tears to cry, more life to celebrate, and more love to give. We are blessed with the best cast, crew, and audience a show could wish for, and I could not be more excited about our future.”

The BBC's content director Charlotte Moore added that "we’re all looking forward to following our cast through the tumultuous years of the late sixties."

Season eight of Call the Midwife is currently airing on BBC One in the U.K. and is due to premiere on PBS in the U.S on March 31. After season eight concludes, the show will return later this year for a holiday special before season nine debuts in 2020. Seasons ten and eleven will then follow in 2021 and 2022.

There's no word yet on casting for the new seasons. Are long-serving faves Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) and Nurse Trixie (Helen George) in it for the long haul? And will we see more of breakout new character Sister Mildred (Miriam Margolyes)? On both counts, fingers crossed!
