Bruce Willis' Next Installment of 'Die Hard' Set to Be a Prequel AND Sequel
Die Hard: Year One has been in the works since 2016, but it now seems director Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard) has some more concrete details, according to /Film.
As the title suggests, the next installment is planned to be a prequel, going back to Die Hard hero John McClane's *(Bruce Willis) early days as a police officer in 1979. AND, it will be a sequel, too.
We can expect to see modern-day McClane reprised by Willis, and the younger version of the detective in flashbacks.
Wiseman said jumping back and forth between past and present will help viewers understand how "the '70s has ramifications on present-day."
Wiseman has already started casting, confirming there is a "young Holly," McClane's wife in 1998's Die Hard and its sequel in 1990, Die Hard 2. We didn't see Holly in the later films, so learning how they met may provide the backstory explaining the couple's estrangement in later years.
He also suggests we may see an on-screen reunion between Willis and Bonnie Bedelia, who played Holly in the original films.
It sounds like Wiseman is ready to go, saying, "Die Hard is going to be happening fairly soon." But, he is hesitant to give out actual dates, based on past experiences: "I’ve been asked about dates before and I’m always wrong," he told /Film.
"The date is when the script is right, which is when we all want to go. The script has taken quite a long time. I want it to be right, as everybody does," says Wiseman.
It turns out Wiseman has started production before the script was complete in the past, giving insight on how that panned out, "The truth is we started prepping Live Free or Die Hard when the script was not ready."
He went on to say, "That process of working on the script as we were shooting the movie is not the funnest thing in the world to do. We pulled it together but nobody wants to go through that again."
Until then, we have Willis' reprisal of the role for his recent Comedy Central Roast to tide us over:

You can also look for Willis in M. Night Shyamalan's Glass (Rel: January 18, 2019), reprising his role of Unbreakable's David Dunn.
