The Bourne series kicked off in 2002, with a total of four films starring Matt Damon in the title role of Jason Bourne — an amnesiac who discovers he's a former CIA assassin. And, it looks like we'll be getting more of the Bourne franchise, with a TV spinoff series heading to USA Network, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Damon will not, however, be reprising the role he made famous. The TV version is set to be a prequel to the film franchise. USA Network, who has greenlit the project, will take us back to the beginning, before Bourne found himself adrift in the ocean, left for dead.

USA has provided the name and description of the TV adaptation of the action-thriller: "Treadstone explores the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Treadstone — a covert operation that uses behavior modification protocol to turn its agents into nearly unstoppable superhuman assassins."

The storyline sounds familiar, with the network releasing details on what to expect: "The series follows sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously 'awakened' to resume their deadly missions."

Ramin Bahrani (Fahrenheit 451) will direct the pilot, and serve as executive producer while Heroes creator Tim Kring is confirmed to write the script.

It seems like the elements are falling into place; now all we need is some casting news.
