The crisis in Ukraine continues, which you can read more about via BBC News. Benedict Cumberbatch is only one person, but he's doing what he can to provide relief to those in need.
Cumberbatch has offered to provide shelter to Ukranian refugees, opening up his home.
In March, he talked about volunteering, saying, “Everyone needs to do as much as they can. I think already today the news has broke that there’s been a record number of people volunteering to take people into their homes. I hope to be part of that myself," reported by the L.A. Times.
In an interview with Sky News, he shared the news that he has been matched up with refugees seeking safety. He elaborated on the plans going forward, saying, “They’ve made it out of Ukraine. I’m monitoring their progress every day.”
He was candid in expressing concerns, saying, “Sadly, they are undergoing some medical treatment — to say anything more about that would be invasion of their privacy and too much about when they’re coming and how that’s being managed would invade mine — but I want to give them some stability after the turmoil that they’ve experienced, and that’s within my home.”
He can only take in so many people, but his efforts don’t stop there, saying, “I’ve been trying to help other Ukrainian families — nationals that are UK citizens — to house their extended families en masse, which you know they want to do, but it’s very costly. So, I’ve been trying to help out with that financially in a couple of instances.”
Cumberbatch isn’t doing it alone, saying, "I’m working through a wonderful charity called Refugees at Home, which is a great gateway to the government scheme, but also to offering further wider support that’s needed for the psychological trauma that these people are suffering from.”
