Ben Whishaw owned it as Q, short for the Quartermaster, in the James Bond thriller Skyfall, but this time around, he’s stepping into the spy role in Tom Rob Smith’s five-part TV series London Spy, reports the U.K. Independent.

BBC announced the series in February, describing it as: “This gripping, contemporary, emotional thriller sees an innocent, young romantic drawn into a dangerous world of espionage.”

Whishaw portrays Danny, who is sort of floating through life, until he meets Alex, an “anti-social, enigmatic, and brilliant” type. Just as Danny starts to fall for him, Alex goes missing.

Danny, while not quite prepared, is pulled into the world of espionage in an attempt to figure out what's happened: where’s Alex?

Smith is over the moon with the casting, saying, “Ben Whishaw is quite simply one of the best actors in the country. It's an extraordinary privilege, as a writer, to have him play the lead.”

Whishaw was last seen on TV in BBC America's critically-acclaimed The Hour. You can watch The Hour at Amazon Instant here.
