Andrew Scott Responds to Phoebe Waller-Bridge's 'Fleabag' Season Three IdeaSeptember 3, 2019
This year's second season of Fleabag was genius for many reasons, but among the main ones was the illicit romance between Phoebe Waller-Bridge's title character and Andrew Scott's so-called "hot priest."
Waller-Bridge, who also developed and exec produces BBC America's Killing Eve, has repeatedly said that season two of the risqué yet touching sitcom will be the last.
However, she recently offered fans a very small glimmer of hope by saying: "I have a fantasy of bringing Fleabag back when I'm 50."
Asked about if he would consider returning as the "hot priest" a decade and a half down the line – Waller-Bridge is currently 34 years old – Scott, 42, told Digital Spy: "Oh, I'll probably be dead. But if I'm still alive, yeah. Listen, I'll be there, whatever she wants me to do."
Continuing, Scott said that he admires Waller-Bridge for being able to leave Fleabag at the end of its second season, a massive critical success which has been nominated for 11 Primetime Emmys.
"With Phoebe, the thing that's amazing about her is that she's so instinctive about it," he added. "I really admire that something's been a huge success, and she goes: 'No, no, no – this is what I'm going to do next year'. It just shows the person that she is. Because I'm sure that there's a lot of enticing things that she's not been distracted by. I think that's kind of admirable, in a way."
Waller-Bridge has recently revealed that she is now writing a feature film that she intends to direct. Scott is also keeping busy, and has just joined the cast of the BBC and HBO's adaptation of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials.
Oh, and if you're missing the "hot priest," watch Scott getting adorably embarrassed about people's reactions to the character during his recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show below. You can also check out our feature on his other great roles besides Fleabag and Sherlock, for which he won a BAFTA.
