Andrew Scott, Claire Foy, Jamie Bell and Paul Mescal have signed up to star in Strangers, the next movie from award-winning British director Andrew Haigh (Weekend, 45 Years).
As Deadline reports, the film is an adaptation of Taichi Yamada's novel, which was published in Japanese in 1987, then translated into English. Scott will play Adam, a 47-year-old screenwriter living in London whose life changes when he befriends his mysterious neighbor Harry (Mescal).
Their friendship compels Adam to return to his childhood home, where he finds a couple (Foy and Bell) who look exactly like his dead parents who died more than 30 years earlier. It's a surreal and intriguing premise and we look forward to seeing how it plays out.
In addition to directing, Haigh has adapted Yamada's novel into the screenplay. His most recent project was The North Water, a tense five-part drama series that takes place on a whaling expedition to the Arctic. Starring Colin Farrell, Jack O'Connell and Stephen Graham, premiering on AMC+ last July.
