7 Times Martin Freeman Was a Gold Star Guest on ‘The Graham Norton Show’

Sherlock and The Hobbit fave Martin Freeman returns to The Graham Norton Show tonight (January 14) to discuss his upcoming crime series The Responder. To whet your appetite, we’re taking a look back at all the times he was a charming, funny, and surprisingly candid guest on the show. If you can't get enough of his wry-slash-dry sense of humor, you'll find plenty to enjoy here.
1. The time he was informed that he looks like a hedgehog.
That's right, Sherlock superfans don't just love photos of otters that look like Benedict Cumberbatch – they also enjoy pictures of hedgehogs that resemble Martin Freeman. And if anyone was going to show them to the actor himself, it was going to be Graham Norton. Make sure you watch till the end for the funniest likeness of all.
2. The time he discussed his Love Actually sex scenes.
After watching this clip, we'll never think of the word "purse" in quite the same way again...
3. The time he opened up about his phobia of choking.
There is a lot to unpack here. First: Martin Freeman has clearly contemplated choking quite deeply. Second: He managed to choke on a handful of crisps – potato chips if you're American – which seems somewhat unlikely. Third: One time he choked at Andy Serkis's house. Thankfully, he has lived to tell every single tale.

4. The time he took part in a punching competition.
His fellow competitors are Rachel Weisz, The Inbetweeners star Greg Davies, and heavyweight boxing champion/Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua. Can you guess who wins?
5. The time he recalled an awkward encounter at a urinal.
Nobody ever tells you that this is one of the perils of being famous. As an aside, thank you to Dame Helen Mirren for setting up this memorably cringey anecdote.
6. The time he spoke touchingly about the huge cultural impact of Black Panther
During this clip, Freeman reveals the witty nickname he and Andy Serkis were given on Black Panther's set. Whoever thought it up deserves a pat on the back, we think you'll agree.
7. The time a Love Actually fan accidentally insulted him at the airport.
To be specific, a Love Actually fan who doesn't seem to know The Hobbit, or Sherlock, or Black Panther, or Fargo, or The Office, or any of the other hugely popular series and movies that Martin Freeman has been in. This clip is taken from the latest episode of The Graham Norton Show, which airs tonight (January 14) at 11pm EST on BBC America.
